Insurance Quality
Parts Program

Recommendations, tools and resources for improving sales, quality,
and service of recycled parts utilization in British Columbia

In 2023, a newly formed ARA committee consisting of representatives from the collision repair and vehicle dismantling and recycling industries met to discuss the challenges and opportunities for improving the utilization of recycled parts for insurance claims. Members of this committee documented industry concerns related to recycled parts utilization and developed standards and recommendations for best practices to resolve these concerns and to influence the sales and service relationship between repairs, recyclers and ICBC. The committee has identified 5 strategic priorities that are aimed towards ameliorating the recycled parts process:

  1. Enhance industry engagement.
  2. Improve communications.
  3. Develop logical business cases endorsed by industry for areas requiring policy change.
  4. Develop industry best practice guidelines.
  5. Develop tools, technology and resources to help support industry.
